In addition to providing new applicants entry level training to industry, there is a strong requirement to focus on the up-skilling of existing workers according to recent research. The recommendation is made in response to the identification of significant skill gaps. Up-skilling courses are available throughout Australia and below is a link to a snapshot of some course listings. Example of a Preferred Training ModelUp-Skilling Programs are typically managed and maintained within the same principles of a Traineeship/Apprenticeship. There are three main sources of evidence required in achieving competence; Theory:- Achieved by successfully completing off-the-job training sessions & completion of training material. Practical:- Achieved by off-the-job practical components being covered in training sessions and on-the-job exposure to the required tasks being completed under the supervision of their mentor/s. Training Record Book:- This book becomes the participant's daily diary documenting their daily tasks from the moment they start work until they finish each day. The TRB is to be signed-off by the supervisor/mentor for validation of the tasks being carried-out. The above mentioned are monitored and reviewed by a Trainer/assessor visiting a site every 2-3 months, to conduct progressive assessments of the participant's newly acquired skills. Also at these visits the Trainer/assessor will conduct one-on-one training where required. Theory training is generally conducted in several blocks and the timings of these blocks are decided through consultation for the best possible outcomes for all concerned. The delivery of this training is designed not to overload the participants with too much information too soon, which can give them the best opportunity to stay focused and retain the maximum knowledge possible. | ||
