What is a resume?

A resume is not your life story but rather a succinct method of marketing those attributes that appeal to prospective employers. Your resume can also be used when applying for courses, additional training and networking opportunities.

Your resume should be treated as a dynamic document that is updated regularly. In particular when you complete training or change jobs.

Tailoring your resume to suit the job or course you are applying for is also a very useful habit - highlighting those aspects that are most relevant. This has the added value for the reader of positioning you quickly and favourably in their mind. Employers typically are most interested in those qualifications and experience that closely match their requirements.

It is a good idea to create firstly your 'all-in' or 'master' version of your resume and from there you can cut and tailor the information creating various editions of your resume to suit when the need arises.
